Single of the Week: Roll Deep ft. Janee – Do Me Wrong
Ahhhh good, good, good. It’s a pop song with a great, infectuous female vocal that isn’t spoiled by bluster, over-emoting or unnecessary vocal gymnastics. Such a RELIEF. This is Wiley’s lot, obviously, but it’s Janee’s understated singing that steals the show. I’d dance to this. I’d look like your dad, but I’d be having fun. Marvellous.

Single of the Week: Ladytron – Runaway
One of the slowest weeks of the year, which is good because it makes my catch-up job much easier. This is the immediate standout track from Ladytron’s immense grower of a fourth album, Velocifero. Imagine Portishead’s ‘Machine Gun’ if it had a heart. Poise, grandeur, precision, beauty, all wrapped up in an impressively stripey video. Yes.

This is the most straightforwardly pop release yet from the tapdancer-powered Omaha gang. The multicoloured, playful video sums up the song perfectly. Wonderfully happy stuff, and pretty much what pop music means to me. Great.
