Not sure how this one slipped through the net. MAY68 are a pretty great little synthy band that sound like a couple of other fun synthy bands out there at the moment (think Chew Lips?) but with maybe a tiny bit more, uh, ‘edge’? At the moment it’s more in the pose than the substance, [...]

Penguin Prison – Something I'm Not (& Krispin Korg remix)
Posted: 29th April 2010 by MV in Future HitsTags: krispin korg, penguin prison
Penguin Prison, AKA New Yorker Chris Glover, once sang in a gospel choir with Alicia Keys, and is currently working on tunes with Crispin Hunt (yes, off of the Longpigs). A mixed up chap, in the best of ways. Anyway, this one’s a pretty straightforward electro affair with a slightly half-arsed wibbly video to go [...]
Here’s the video to the rather enjoyable ‘Better Than Love’ by hype-tastic duo Hurts. It sounds a bit like Depeche Mode. It’s got a nice video with legs, metronomes, ballet and moody staring into the middle distance. A-plenty. And that’s all you need to know.
Ocelot – Beating Hearts (& Louis La Roche remix)
Posted: 28th April 2010 by MV in Future HitsTags: louis la roche, ocelot
A Wall of Sound-signed duo, whose Myspace proclaims ‘all the fun of trance, without all that trance’, Ocelot have been doing the remix rounds for a while now. Now they’re striking out alone, and… well, it’s another track with more than a little of that classic French house thing going on… and another Tron-hued video. [...]
Another week, another bunch of slightly old videos. Sorry, that’s not a very positive start is it? Old videos, but also AWESOME videos. Is that better? Anyway, you’ll have heard this one knocking around for a while. A couple of French guys who sound kind like the Strokes trying to recreate Daft Punk’s Discovery. A [...]
Tunng – Hustle (& Bloc Party Remix)
Posted: 23rd April 2010 by MV in ReleasesTags: bloc party, tunng
Initially, this was going to be one of those ‘only here for the remix’ type posts, but the original – more twee than a rabbit with a lollipop – has somehow managed to grow on me a bit. In truth though, it’s all a bit beardy for my tastes, so I was heartened by the [...]
Only just stumbled across the video for this, thus I’m not very on the ball and that. Sorry, sorry. For some reason, when I voted in that BBC Sound of 2010 poll, I went a bit funny and decided it’d be worth voting for this lot. While they have somewhat rudely failed to make their [...]
Music Go Music – Light of Love (Diskjokke remix)
Posted: 21st April 2010 by MV in ReleasesTags: diskjokke, music go music
ABBA. There you go, I’ve said it once so I don’t need to say it again. Light of Love is the latest great offering from the LA-based 70s revivalists. I went to see them recently and don’t think I’ve seen more infectious smiling on stage in, well, ever. Light of Love is a joyful, shamelessly [...]
Hooray For Earth – Surrounded By Your Friends
Posted: 20th April 2010 by MV in ReleasesTags: hooray for earth
Another day another New York indie band. What am I turning into here? Someone send me some good pop or I’m in danger of turning. I don’t have an awful lot of facts about Hooray For Earth, but I can deduce some things. First, they are from NEW YORK and on tour with SURFER BLOOD. [...]
Another quick post to kick off this sunny day. Here’s the lovely Sia with her latest Kurstin-produced quirk-pop ditty. The excellent, if just a little creepy, video finds Ms Sia’s head trying on various muppety bodies. All good, though the pole dancing bits are pretty wrong though. Another video featuring weird muppety things up later, [...]
